A graduate of Canterbury University School of Fine Arts in Christchurch, Macleod has been recognised with many of Australia’s most prestigious art awards, including the Archibald Prize (1999), Sulman Prize (2001) and Blake Prize (2006). His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and numerous other major public collections, confirming his position as one of Australia’s leading contemporary painters.

Painted during the artist’s exploration of the Flinders Ranges, Long Dark Mountain belongs to an important body of work inspired by the ancient landscapes of South Australia’s arid interior.
